Group 'A' (Civil Construction)
Attempt any FOUR questions.
1. a. List some characteristics of good brick. [5]

2. a. What do you understand by bearing capacity of soil? Why is foundation necessary? [2+3]
b. Explain the types of foundation with neat sketch. {5}
3. a. Sketch the wall with opening show the position of sills, jambs and lintels. (5)
b. Define cement. What are the different types of cement used in construction practices? (1+4)
4. a. Explain the need of drainage around the buildings. (5)
b. Explain the basic requirement of load bearing structure. (5)
5. Write short notes on:
a. Comparison between Conservancy and Water Carriage System
b. Comparison between Stone and Brick Masonry
c. Flat and Pitched Roof
d. Concrete Mixes

Attempt any FOUR questions.
6. a. Define surveying. Explain the major divisions of surveying. (1+4)
b. Explain the errors and accuracy in taping. (5)
7. a. What are the criteria for selection of overhead power supply line? [4]
b. The length of a survey line was measured with a 30 m tape and was found to be 1000 m. As a check, the length was again measured with another 20 m tape and was found to be 1010 m. On Comparing the 30 m tape with a test guage. It was found to be 0.1 m too long. Find the actual length of 20 tape. [6]
8. Convert the following QB to WCB and WCB to QB. (4)

b. The following bearing were taken in running a closed compass traverse while surveying. [6]
I. State the stations which are affected by local attractions and by how much.

10. What do you mean by leveling? The following consecutive readings were taken with a level and 4 m levelling staff on a continuously sloping ground at common intervals of 30 m. [2+8]
